State Department Champions Tree Growing Initiative at Ngong Hills
The State Department for National Government Coordination today undertook a tree planting exercise at the scenic Ngong Hills as part of its ongoing environmental conservation efforts. The activity was led by Secretary Administration Mr. Abednego Etyang’, who represented the Principal Secretary, Hon. Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, and was attended by members of the Tree Growing and Restoration Committee alongside the local community.
The initiative aligns with the Presidential directive to grow 15 billion trees nationwide, a key intervention aimed at combating climate change and safeguarding the environment for present and future generations.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Etyang’ emphasized the importance of sustained environmental stewardship. *“Each seedling planted is a step toward cleaner air, healthier ecosystems, and enhanced biodiversity. It is also a reminder that environmental conservation is not a one-day activity, but a continuous commitment that requires collective responsibility,”* he noted.
He further called upon both the departmental team and the local community to maintain momentum by nurturing the planted trees and adopting sustainable environmental practices.
The tree planting exercise underscores the State Department’s commitment to supporting national climate action goals while fostering community participation in environmental conservation.
